The title "wombat" arises from the now nearly extinct Dharug language spoken by the aboriginal Dharug people today, who initially inhabited the Sydney region.[three] It had been initial recorded in January 1798, when John Price and James Wilson, a white person who had adopted aboriginal means, visited the area of what's now Bargo, New South Wales.
